LONGING HOME; LONGING AWAY
10 pictures on longing
What is home, who is a guest and where am I at home?
This performance brings on the stage different perspectives on leaving, settling, and alienating and the strong emotions that migration and moving creates.
What if the longing to go elsewhere is just an inner feeling we have created?
In the work, the theme of longing for home is explored and interpreted by two artists who are influential both in Finland and elsewhere in Europe.
Actress Salla Kozma is an urban nomad who moves around the world like a fish in water, working digitally from any seaside at any time. She is most often found jogging in France on the Riviera and Monaco's beach routes.
Angela Aldebs, a Syrian dancer based in Helsinki, who does her artistic work as a visiting artist also all over Europe, brings a wonderful powerful, magical and dynamic bodily expression to the performance.
Through voice, body and music, these luminous and sensitive interpreters go through a century of homesickness, inspired by their own and their families' histories. The show is a multi-level, touching, funny, violent and captivating work on a subject that reaches through the history of our own grandparents to the present day.
The text of the performance consists of classic and modern texts by Finnish, French and Syrian writers. Stage design consists of stunningly beautiful footage shot mainly in Monaco.
